The Opportunity
Following national trends, community colleges in North Carolina struggled with enrollment and persistence during the COVID-19 pandemic, as financial, health and personal matters became overwhelming for students. In response to these mounting barriers, Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) looked to target a specific subset of students – those who had stopped-out but who were close to completing their degree or credential – to support them in re-enrolling to complete.

Using Lumina grant funds provided in partnership with SHEEO (State Higher Education Executive Officers Association), Wake Tech partnered with InsideTrack to create a re-enrollment program aimed at re-engaging students who were close to finishing their degree or credential – leveraging data science and direct one-to-one coaching to identify, engage with, and re-enroll stopped-out students.
